Like filling a container, we can fill our mind with negative thoughts or joy. I don’t know about you, but around here my husband and I have been working a lot with our thoughts. It is amazing how much of a role our thoughts play in our lives. How it affects our emotions and every decision we make.
So many times a day negative thoughts rise up in our minds. We try to continuously practice taking control of our thoughts. Getting rid of the negative thoughts and trying to focus on good things. Like the word says in Philippians 4:8 “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
I’ll be honest, we know that sometimes that is not an easy thing to do when your mind is being bombarded with these negative thoughts. Especially ones that are deep-rooted from the past. Maybe a past experience that stirs up emotion, causing you to react a certain way.
Filling the Container
The Lord gave my husband a new light on this the other day that he shared with me and I thought I would share it with you. He was rebuking the negative thoughts coming up saying he wasn’t good enough or that nobody liked him. (We all get those ugly thoughts. A favorite strategy of the devil.) He made him think of an empty container and said now you have an empty container, referring to the now empty place where the negative thought was. The Lord said now you need to fill that empty container with joy. My husband asked the Lord, how do I do this. He replied by laughing. Even if you don’t feel like it, you start laughing by faith.
Instead of Negative Thoughts Laughter Brings Joy
You see there is such power in laughing and in joy. Your face, your stomach, does not know that your laugh isn’t how you are “feeling”. But it all reacts as if it does and our muscles still work the same. Your body will react as if you are really laughing for real. You do it by faith and you will see your body and mind react to it. Joy will start moving up in you. Your mind will start filling up with joy. Joy is a very powerful spiritual force. The bible says the Joy of the Lord is our strength. So when those negative thoughts start attacking your mind, let’s take advantage of your strength. Cast those thoughts out because those are not from God and fill them with laughter and joy.
